Handcrafted AMG 6.3L V-8
Unique to the SLS AMG GT is its 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V-8. With peak output of 583 hp @ 6,800 rpm and 479 lb-ft or torque @ 4,750 rpm, it is among the most powerful engines of its kind to be fitted standard to any car in production. Numerous racing-derived features team up to deliver lightning-quick response in every driving condition, from engine braking into a corner to pouring on the power as you exit, along with 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds and a top track speed of 197 mph.
Racing-derived engine features
Forged-alloy pistons, a rigid one-piece bedplate, and reinforced camshafts, valvetrain and crankshaft assure enduring performance in the heat of competition or over years of enjoyment. Extensive weight reduction comes from using aluminum screws, magnesium intakes, forged pistons, and optimization of components from the connecting rods to the oil pump. The result is a class-leading 1.28 hp/lb of engine weight and specific output of nearly 94 hp/liter of displacement, without turbocharging.
To improve lubrication during hard cornering and other extremes, a dry sump replaces the traditional oil pan with a remote reservoir, an highly efficient variable-vane oil pump and an elaborate cooling system. An additional benefit of this setup is a lower overall engine profile, allowing the engine to be mounted lower in the vehicle, behind the front axle. This configuration contributes significantly to the SLS AMG GT’s ultralow center of gravity and ideal 47:53 front/rear weight distribution.
AMG DRIVE UNIT with E-SELECT and four driving modes
As enticing as it is intriguing, the AMG DRIVE UNIT’s driver-oriented pushbutton controls enable the selection of individual settings for the 3-stage ESP®, suspension and drive modes. A rotary control selects the mode for the MCT transmission. The distinctive centerpiece is the AMG E-SELECT gear lever embossed with the AMG crest, electronically shifting directly between R, N and D with a gentle nudge. A brief tap of the “P” button is sufficient to activate the parking lock.
AMG sport seats
Directly inspired by racing, the deeply contoured, power-adjustable seats feature integrated head restraints. Lightweight yet highly rigid magnesium frames assure excellent support while helping to maintain the car’s low center of gravity. Side bolsters in the cushion and backrest feature denser, more supportive foam, while the central sections are designed for enduring comfort on longer drives. Full power adjustment, a 3-position memory, and 3-stage heating are also included for each seat.
COMAND system with central controller
Featuring a high-resolution color display and a central controller on the console, the Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND®) system gives you convenient control of audio, video, hands-free calling and navigation functions. Many features can also be accessed via the integrated steering-wheel controls.
